State Certified Non Public School (NPS)
What does this mean?
Star Academy is certified by the California Department of Special Education as a Non Public School. This means we meet specific quality standards set and monitored by the State. For example, our curriculum is based on State standards and all of our Head Teachers have special education teaching credentials, among others.
When a school has achieved certain quality standards set by the State and becomes a certified Non Public School, this qualifies the school to receive publicly funded students. This occurs when the school district is unable to provide an appropriate education for the student and essentially outsources the education to Star Academy.
Star Academy's student population is comprised both of private paying students (i.e. the student's parents or family pay the tuition) and publicly funded students (i.e. the student's school district pays the tuition).
