San Anselmo's Star Academy is about to move into a newly renovated, $10 million building it got as a gift.
The multimillion acquisition and rehabilitation of the school's new San Rafael location at 4470 Redwood Highway was made possible by an anonymous donor, said Susan MacKay, president of the board of directors. The school plans to move in mid-March.
"It's an amazingly generous way to show an organization that they value them and respect their work," MacKay said. The donor bought the building and paid for the renovation.
The 20,000-square-foot building is a custom job. Crews have removed the second floor and installed steel beams to create a gymnasium. The school features six classrooms with secondary rooms to allow students to break into smaller groups, an art room, an art therapy room, a music room, two occupational therapy rooms, a multiuse room and several small specialist offices, officials said.
