What About Me?

A 7-Week Group for Parents with Lisa Tangalos

Parents of children with learning differences, developmental disorders, chronic medical conditions, and behavioral and emotional issues face unique challenges on a daily basis. These challenges often leave parents feeling constantly exhausted and emotionally and physically depleted. Without realizing it parents easily lose touch with their own needs. Taking care of yourself can be difficult, particularly when the demands are so high. In our group we will work together to help you create ways to care for yourself that will enrich your life and will, in turn, enrich the lives of those you love. Our group will meet once a week for seven weeks and are formed on an on-going basis with limited space

Group Objectives

  • Provide an environment to support and guide you in identifying and addressing your own needs

  • Examine the complex challenges of having a child with special needs and how it impacts your life and relationships

  • Deepen your understanding of how your emotional and physical needs influence your child rearing

  • Using a strengths-based approach we will create ways to handle the myriad of emotions that accompany parenting a child with special needs

  • Explore ways to improve communication within and beyond your family

Directions to Star

Please read these directions. GPS isn't fully reliable.

From Highway 101, take the Lucas Valley/Smith Ranch Rd exit and head East on Smith Ranch Rd. Make a hard right at the light and Star Academy will come up quickly on your left. If you see Redwood Cafe and Bank of Marin on your left, you've gone too far. If our parking lot is full, you can park at the Park & Ride that is across the street from Bank of Marin.

The Speaker Series events are held in The Administration Building, across the playground from the Main Building. Star is a secure facility so look for a Star Ambassador to greet you and allow you into the building.
