Our Kids with Smartphones and Computers:

What are they doing? Are they safe? How can I keep up?

Presenter: Robbie Leftwich-Vann (mom of Star high schooler, Alex V.)

Did you know that 17% of tweens (age 8-12) have received a message through the Internet with photos or words that made them feel uncomfortable, only 7% of parents were aware of this? Or that 65% of 8-14 year-olds have been involved in a cyberbullying incident?

Come and get some practical information about how to help, support, and protect your kids as they navigate electronic devices and the cyber-world. Robbie is the tech guru in her household and has tried just about everything. She will discuss her research, experiences, and advice about cell phone parental controls (with a focus on the IPhone), home network monitoring and filtering, as well as some safe email options.

Robbie Leftwich-Vann has 30 years of experience leading large and complex aerospace and science projects for the U.S. government and 22 years as a parent of two exceptional children. She recently led a NASA airborne telescope program and is now managing the design and construction of the synchrotron particle accelerator at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab. A dynamic and experienced public speaker and adult educator, Robbie brings her knowledge, skills, and abilities from the public technology world to the challenges of cyber-security in her own family.
