Assistant Teacher - 28 hours/week

The position involves working with students with learning differences in grades 3-12. Applicants must be organized, professional, collaborative, positive and creative. Strong preference given to candidates with a California Teaching Credential, experience in literacy instruction, Language Arts specialists (Linda Mood Bell, Orton-Gillingham or Wilson trained)and experience working with students with learning differences. The position has the possibility for growth and expansion of responsibilities. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting the Head Teacher in managing all classroom responsibilities for a group of students with a variety of special education needs.

Essential Duties include: 
  • Provide academic support to designated students
  • Implement Lesson Plans that have been developed by the Head Teacher
  • Assist Head Teacher in maintaining classroom student records accurately and completely, including weekly evaluations of student progress towards meeting IEP goals
  • Assist in developing and maintaining behavioral approaches and discipline
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and needs
  • Collaborate with Star Academy staff regarding student goals and progress
  • Monitor students at all times, including field trips
  • Know and enforce all school rules and policies at all times
  • Maintain a neat, organized, visually appealing classroom space
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development trainings as appropriate
