Job Summary

We are seeking a .8 FTE Counselor.  One position is available immediately. Star Academy provides a comprehensive, individualized education program for students with learning differences.

Star Academy’s mission is to help students experience academic success through a multisensory approach with an emphasis on neuro-affirming programs and practices.

Our students face mild to moderate challenges such as: dyslexia, executive functioning deficits, dyscalculia, auditory processing, dysgraphia, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder. Elementary, middle, high school and post-secondary students all benefit from Star’s calm, nurturing, and supportive environment.

We are seeking a patient, kind and thoughtful clinician to provide educationally related counseling to students in order to support their ability to access the curriculum. Star Academy is a highly collaborative environment and we are seeking a team player who can work effectively with other specialists and classroom teachers. Candidates must have the following qualifications:
  • Pupil Personnel Services(PPS)in School Counseling or School Psychology credential issued by the State of California.
  • Valid licensure through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP) or the ability to obtain a valid licensure.
  • Minimum of 1 year of prior experience in a school-based setting, highly preferable.
  • Department of Justice fingerprint clearance, Tuberculosis Screening and reference check.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience working with students with learning differences in grades 1-12
  • Knowledge of current evidenced based practices in Educationally Related Mental Health Services
  • Extensive knowledge of assessment tools and report writing
  • Make recommendations foreducationally-related mental health services for students with significant social emotional and/or behavior needs.
  • Develop and maintain behavioral health programs in collaboration with the IEP process.
  • Provide clinical consultation and support to school staff and families as necessary.
  • Provide case consultation and support coordination with outside agencies as needed.
  • Experience with individual and small group service delivery models
  • Experience being part of an Individual Education Plan (IEP) team and familiarity with IEP procedures including goal writing, updating and presenting at IEP meetings.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong record keeping and organizational skills
